Team England has launched a new sustainability initiative giving official Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games kit a second life through resale, reuse and redistribution extending the lifespan of sportswear while supporting grassroots sport and charitable causes.
Running from 16th September to 11th November, the programme brings together Team England, Loughborough University and kitround to create a circular pathway for official Glasgow 2026 kit now the Games have finished. Team England athletes and staff will pass on selected official kit through a dedicated kitshop on the kitround platform, keeping high-quality sportswear in use for longer. A proportion of resale proceeds will go to StreetGames, a charity that transforms young people's lives through sport.
The project supports Team England's 2030 Sustainability Strategy and tackles a wider challenge in elite sport: UK Sport's Apparel Sustainability Baseline found high-performance organisations purchased over 88,000 items of kit in a single year, with athlete-selection uncertainty often creating unused surplus stock. Through the initiative, Team England will explore how circular approaches can be built into the planning and delivery of major sporting events, generating insight to shape future kit management across the sector.
Alongside the kit programme, Team England and Sport England delivered an athlete sustainability toolkit, giving athletes practical guidance and confidence to speak about sustainability across media and community engagement.
